For your information, whilst planning the principles upon which the interleague would operate we could not come up with an equitable solution to all the sub issues that came up since we agreed the format.

As TD of the event I have not been comfortable with the way it seemed to be moving away from what the interleague is currently and more towards a 9 person Intercounty team.

The net result of this is that we will now not be using the Intercounty model to run the interleague and will return to being three team groups. As a result of this all rules that are currently employed to administer the event remain unaltered and will continue to operate.

I also have to inform you that I am the main stumbling block in this and it’s my reluctance to make the wholesale changes the event needed to run the event to the Intercounty model that have brought us to this situation.

I will take full responsibility for both defending what we know as the interleague and the event reverting back (as closely as we can) to what the interleague has been for years. I am not adverse to change but I do believe in defending the traditional core values and history of the interleague.

In order to run the interleague as closely as possible to the traditional event we have all grown up with will require a re-draw with teams going in to groups of three (and two groups of 2).

What follows is a brief outline of how it will work.

We have 118 teams, which will mean 38 groups of 3 and 2 groups of 2.

The 40 group winners will go through to the last 64.

Then 8 matches (all on two tables) to take us to the last 32.

The main points are:

1 1 winner from each group goes through as per existing rules

2 we Still have 3 frame playoff to decide group

3 Draw at Lunch time on Sat for knockout stage (first 14 out will play prelim/last 64)

4 Hopefully, most of the 7 last 64 matches (ie 14 teams) can go on by 5pm on 2 tables

5 The last 32 can go on from 5 to 7, the last one finishing about 9.

Remider : This means that all the rules currently employed by the interleague do not need to be adapted/changed/altered/reinterpreted. Whilst accepting that a re-draw and a deviation from a published format is a major step for the event to take. We as a team honestly feel the benefits offered by reverting back to the traditional methods used to run the national interleague finals justify the possible disruption.  Below is the re-draw
