2009 National Inter-County Finals Report

What a weekend, are Region 7 the best Region in the Country?

The 2009 National Inter-County Finals weekend brought some amazing results that may prove that Region 7 are "probably" the best Region in the country.

Surrey claimed the A and B titles, and Kent won the Ladies crown, to our knowledge, the first time a Region has captured 3 of the 4 titles.

Surrey A captured their first National Crown since 1986 beating 5 times champions Staffordshire in the semi final en-route to the title.

Surrey B captured their first National Title, beating defending champions Bristol twice and 5 times Champions Staffordshire on way to the crown. Having to win 3 matches on three frame play-offs after drawing the matches…"Kings of the shoot out!"

By Surrey capturing the A & B titles they equalled a feat only ever achieved once in 1996 in winning both Men’s titles in the same year.

Kent Ladies captured their 4th National title and 3rd on the trot, beating 2 times champions Staffordshire twice in the event.

London Youth got to the semi-finals, loosing to Somerset, which is a fantastic achievement at the first attempted.

Other congratulations must go to Candy Wright, Surrey for qualifying for the England Ladies squad and Danny Miller, London for doing the same in the Men's section.

There was also the National U-21 Championships, and Region 7 had lots of entries, with pride of place going to London’s Frank Costello who lost in the final. Other mentions to Surrey players Liam Pearson who got to the semis and George Reeves who lost in the quarter finals respectively.

Overall a great weekend, for all, and with Region 7 holding three of the four National titles, is there any doubting we are "Simply the Best!"
